Wifi-Chime : Prototype
The WifiChime is intended to be a wearable, motion sensitive, WiFI reactive, digital “wind chime.” The purpose of this project is to explore physical computing , inspire interaction through physical movement, and comment on electromagnetic pollution.
This device makes use of an Arduino programmable micro controller, hand-held WiFi detector, Four dual channel sound modules, and a Seismic sensor w/ display circuitry. Based on what level of signal is detected by the detector, the Arduino triggers sound banks 1-7 in sequences determined in code. Tones are triggered only when motion is detected.
WiFi was chosen for the project due to its relatively short range, varying signal strength, and prevalence on a school campus, surrounding businesses, and residential areas.
Known issues:
- REALLY bad sound bites
- Bad sound quality
- Sound modules beep and stop when more than one bank per module is triggered at the same time.
